Next Meeting
The South Carolina Treasure and Artifact Association will
meet Monday, Jan. 27, at 7:15 p.m. at the Greer Rec Center. As new
president, I will be sharing plans and a new contest, the scavenger hunt.
January's hunt items are: an old-fashioned pull tab, a wheat cent
and a Budweiser beer cap.
At the Annual Awards Banquet last week, we had an attendance
of 53. The prize winners names are on the attached document and a group
picture is also attached. We voted on the Best Finds of the Year and
Maggie Moffat came in 1st and Barry Fletcher was 2nd. The awards are
provided by Randy Reece and Donnie Bagwell of Bagwell Detector Sales.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS!
See you Monday,
Kenny Brackett, SCTAA President
WELCOME
- Members and their families and guests!
The
winners of the treasure hunter of the year award are members who have supported
the club in a variety of ways. Members

object you have found to the owner, conducting a program, bringing in a new
member or making money donations. You
earn one point for each dollar up to $20 per month, plus you enable the club to
put on a good hunt each fall at Lake Lure.

The
SCTAA met on October 28, 2013 with 37 in attendance including visitors: Cale Smith and Kato Hicks; and new 2014
member Tal Cloud. Members reported
enjoying the annual hunt at Lake Lure.
Thirty hunters paid and 29 participated.

During
the program time, Kenny Brackett shared his experiences detecting around the
Landrum train depot where he made some relic finds of historical significance -
particularly some bullet casings from the late 1800's that could be related to
the murder of U.S. Marshal James Ledford on June 12, 1877. There is an interesting article about it all
in Life in our Foothills magazine which is in our club library. There will be a future opportunity for
members to detect in dirt excavated from the same site with finds going to the
town of Landrum. Randy Gatchel
(864-839-3598 or lincolnrg@aol.com) announced his treasure hunt is being
resumed.
